What is a Trusted Advisor?
A Trusted Advisor is someone who provides an MD/CEO with the space & freedom to explore niggling issues that need to be addressed. The relationship often emerges from working closely on other challenges, where the Trusted Advisor's credibility is established.
As an MD/CEO, do I really need a Trusted Advisor?
No, many MDs get by without one. The real question you need to ask yourself is: what is "getting by" costing you?
You can definitely figure it out on your own but you stand to lose:
- Time, energy trying things out
- Costs of repeat patterns or procrastination
- Months, as your focus is diverted
- Loss of opportunities, due to issues not being resolved
- Long hours & loss of good people
What value does it bring?
You know lots of stuff about your business but you're too busy to access it.
Regular scheduled meetings guarantees you invest some of your time & energy supporting you, freeing you up to work "on" your business.
How does it work?
Typically, its a 1-2-1 relationship between MD/CEO and Trusted Advisor.
Meeting cadence can be monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly, delivered virtually in 90-min or 120 min sessions.
What would we do?
At the start of each session, you outline your challenge, concern, dilemma. We talk through the root causes of why this matters, what's causing it, potential options & then explore the best solution for you & your business.
As Trusted Advisor, I use a range of skills - coaching, mentoring, training, experience, etc - to help you understand what is really happening & ways you can resolve it.
You make the final call.
How is this service delivered?
Virtual or in-person, depending on your location and travel budget.
Is a Trusted Advisor an Indulgence?
One thing leaders consistently don't do enough of is take time out of the business to reflect on business performance & what is getting in the way. Long-term success depends on this reflection. This is no indulgence. This is an effective use of your time, ensuring you protect your business, for today and tomorrow.
How Often Would We Meet?
This waxes & wanes, depending on what is going on in the business. With a lot of change or numerous issues arising, it could be monthly or bi-monthly. As things settle down, it may stretch to quarterly until challenges pick up again.
