Organisational Design for Scaling Businesses

SUPPORTING BUSINESSES NAVIGATE PAIN POINTS OF EACH STAGE OF GROWTH

Organisation Design Phase II

What is Organisation Design?

Organisation Design is the intention process of designing a company to enable it to effectively deliver its business strategy.

There are typically 3 phases:

  1. Designing organisational framework
  2. Developing framework details
  3. Implementing new design

Why Happens in Phase II?

Using the organisational framework designed in Phase I, working groups are set up, to develop the details that bring the framework to life.  These include:

  • Roles & responsibilities within framework
  • New key or lateral processes required
  • Key metrics, performance standards & rewards
  • Role volumes, selection & development

What Will We Achieve?

Outputs include:

  • Organisation chart
  • Organisational roles & purposes
  • Roles, job descriptions & required numbers
  • Key process documentation
  • KPIs, metrics & reward mechanisms

What Does That Do for Us?

Management & employees alike align behind the organisation, as they gain clear sight of your business, how & why its designed, what is expected of them & how their organisational & specific roles links to other organisational & specific roles.

Processes are clearly documented, breaking the link between good employees & your success.  You have clear sight of how to develop the talent your business needs to deliver the strategy.

What is an Organisational Role?

An organisational role defines the purpose a particular part of an organisation has been designed to play.  For example, the organisational role of SALES is to secure orders, which in turn, brings in revenue.

An organisational role defines why a team exists without getting into detail.  Roles & responsibilities define what specific roles sit within an organisational role.

How is this work delivered?

Work can be delivered virtually or in-person, depending on your location and travel budget.  A project plan typically guides meetings & workshops.

How Long Does Organisation Design Phase II Take?

This falls into the "how long is a piece of string"? category. It depends on your company's actual starting point & gap to agreed design framework.  If little has been documented to-date or strategy resulted in substantial change to organisation design, 20-25 days might be appropriate.  If less dramatic, 5-10 days might be better estimate.  Plans & commitment are typically agreed prior to starting Phase II.

What if None of Us Have Ever Done Anything Like this Before?

Similar to Phase I, you're in good hands.  We'll agree a project plan & time commitments, guide the team through the process, communicate expectations. Project plans will incorporate change management activities, to ensure successful adoption.
