I don’t know about you but I’m kinda done with Covid19. It was grand at the beginning, we were all in it together. It was supposed to be over by the end of June, at the latest. Yet here we are, still in partial lockdown, wondering if the schools really will re-open in two weeks time and praying a vaccine will be available in 2021. I’m tired in myself, and taking time off to be in the same four walls isn’t a guaranteed tonic.
The whole grind of Covid19 brings back memories of when we built our house (I’ll dispense with counting how many years ago). There were some very difficult days during that period. Times when I just wanted to shout “Let’s just forget the whole thing!” but, of course, I couldn’t. We had started so we needed to finish it. Just like Covid19.
To help me get through that time, I used to recall the story of Jorn Utzon. “Who?”, I hear you ask. Even longer ago than building the house, I spent a year in Australia and, on one of my last days, I finally went to see the Sydney Opera House (don’t ask). As we went through the tour, the guide explained how the architect, Jorn Utzon, had imagined sails soaring over the harbour. In 1957, Utzon’s entry was selected as the winner of over 200 entries.
Utzon and the Sydney Opera House is the story I pull on, when I need to find my resilience and keep going. In the Comments, I’d love if you share the inspiring human story you pull on, when you need to find your resilience. If you don’t have a story to pull on, go to the library or google “Life Stories” and find a story that inspires and resonates with you. Keep going, we’ll get there with Covid.
